Social Networking

I do find it all a bit overwhelming. I am not sure I see Facebook as a valuable tool for library staff. To me, the value in any of the strictly social sites, as opposed to professionally oriented ones such as LinkedIn, is that they are more sophisticated versions of a single e-mail addressed to multiple people. I definitely see the purpose and point of LinkedIn.

I wonder if sometimes we have become too connected. I am currently reading "Born Digital" and it does give me pause.

However, I am open to the possibility that if I opened a Facebook account I might learn to view it differently and develop an ardent enthusiasm for it that the millions of its members seem to have for it. For a while now I have been thinking about doing so.

As for library staff use, I am at a loss to see the value for library staff, Top Ten Facebook Apps. for Librarians notwithstanding.
